Tonga Volcanic Eruption

Tonga Volcanic Eruption

An underwater volcano situated between Austalia and Tahiti has erupted, causing the release of smoke and ashes into the area. The Tonga volcanic explosion happened after a chain of earthquakes struck near the site. According to officials, the Tonga volcanic explosion is not currently posing any sort of danger to anyone. However, the Tonga volcanic explosion is a spectacular view. Many have visited the site to snap photographs or to catch some video.

According to the U.S. geological survery, the Tonga volcanic explosion is quite a major one. It was believed to have been trigger by a 5.0 magnitude earthquake. According to the Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program, a plume reached a height of about 25,000ft yesterday when the eruption started. One geochemist, however, thinks that the Tonga volcanic explosion was not linked to the earthquake. He cites that would this be true, magma would have made it way to the top of the volcano. The journey upwards is some 68 miles. This never happened so there is reason to believe the earthquake and Tonga volcanic explosion are not related to each other.

Those of you that can should catch a glimpse of the Tonga volcanic explosion by either watching a video or taking a look at some of the spectacular pictures. It really is an amazing sight and not something you get to look at everyday. Videos of the Tonga volcanic explosion are widely available and can be seen via YouTube and other video sharing sites.
