Eligibility: For M.Tech: A pass in Eligible Degree (B.E. / B.Tech / Equivalent ) ; Candidates in the final Semester of the qualifying degree programme are eligible to apply.

For M.S. (By Research):

Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate branch of engineering. A pass in the qualifying examination. Candidates in the final Semester of the qualifying degree programme are eligible to apply.

For M.Sc.:

Minimum of 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in the qualifying examination, for General category and mere pass for SC/ST candidates. Candidates in the final semester of the qualifying degree programme are eligible to apply.

For Ph.D.:

Candidates with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5 in a scale of 10) in UG or PG are eligible for admission under General Category. For SC / ST candidates, a pass in UG and PG is sufficient.


Application procedure: Candidates can down load the application form and details from our website www.nitt.edu. Downloaded and filled up applications should be accompanied by prescribed application cum Registration fee of Rs.300/- (Rs.100/- for SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities) by means of Demand Draft drawn not earlier than 6th April 2009 and in favour of “DIRECTOR, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, TIRUCHIRAPPALLI – 620015” payable at State Bank of India, NIT Branch (Code 1617) Tiruchirappalli.

The candidates are requested to write their name and the Department to which they are applying on the reverse side of the draft. The application forms, with necessary enclosures, should reach the Dean (Academic), National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli-620 015 by May 11, 2009.

Eligibility : NIT Rourkela – M.Tech. Admissions
The candidates should have B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc. or equivalent degree in the discipline as mentioned above with not less than 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in the qualifying examination. There is no relaxation in academic requirement for any category / caste of candidates. The candidates appearing B.E. / B.Tech / M.Sc. (final semester) examination may also apply for the above course. However, they have to produce their marksheet showing 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 in aggregate latest by 30th September 2009, failing which their admission will stand cancelled. Such student must produce a certificate signed by the Principal or Registrar of the College last attended stating that all examinations including practical necessary for award of the degree have been completed in order to be eligible for admission.

In case a course does not get enough students to make the course viable, the students
admitted to that course will be transferred to other courses according to the student’s preference and eligibility given in his application form.

Except for sponsored candidates, selection will be strictly based on GATE Score. In case GATE qualified candidates are not available, admission may be given to other candidates on the basis of marks secured in qualifying degree and a written and /or oral examination.

Sponsored students
Persons employed in other organizations (institutions/industries/research organizations) can be considered under sponsored category provided they satisfy the same qualification norms as above and have a total of minimum two years full time Continuous service in the sponsoring organization. They have to apply in prescribed form (NITR/AC/202) along with the application form (NITR/AC/201) through their employers with suitable endorsement. All sponsored candidates satisfying the above criteria will be called for interview. They are advised to come
with experience certificate and other relevant documents such as pay-slip, appointment order & Identity card with which they can convenience the selection committee about their length of service in the sponsoring organization. The percentage marks requirement for sponsored candidates may be relaxed up to 55% or 6.0 CGPA if documentary evidence of proven research & professional experience (publications, Unpublished works) in the appropriate field are submitted. Sponsored students are not eligible for scholarships and placement facilities.

2. M.Sc. ( 4 Semesters) Programmes with academic qualifications

Chemistry
B.Sc with Chemistry as a major subject ( Honours in Chemistry preferred) and Mathematics at +2 level.

Mathematics
B.Sc with Mathematics as a major subject ( Honours in Mathematics preferred)

Physics
B.Sc with Physics as a major subject ( Honours in Physics preferred) and Mathematics at +2 level.

Life Science
B.Sc. with Botany, Zoology, Microbiology or another Life Science subject as major subject ( Honours preferred)

Eligibility :
The candidate must have acquired B.Sc. degree with the subject applied for as one of the
subjects (either in pass or Honours) . Mathematics in +2 levels is compulsory for
Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics branches. Admission to the programme will be made on the basis of career marking as decided by the Institute. Candidates appearing B.Sc. final Examination may also apply for the above programme by due date, however they are required to submit their mark sheet at the time of Counselling and admission. Such student must produce a certificate signed by the Principal or Registrar of the College last attended stating that all examinations including practical necessary for award of the degree have been completed in order to be eligible for admission.

3. Slow Pace Programme
All M.Tech. and M.Sc. programmes are also offered in slow pace (3 years for M.Tech and 4 years for M.Sc.) to candidates, employed (including self employment) in industry / organizations in and around Rourkela. It is available to students of both regular and sponsored categories within the approved seats. Eligibility criteria, selection process and fees are same as those for regular or sponsored students studying in normal pace. Candidates enrolling for M.Tech. (Slow pace) programme are required to take one year leave from their sponsoring organization after successful completion of course work to complete their project work unless permitted by Institute to carry out the project in the place of employment on the strength of facilities available
in the company/organization.

How to apply: for NIT Rourkela – M.Tech. and M.Sc. Admissions
Application form may be downloaded and the filled in application form be sent to “The Assistant Registrar (Academic), National Institute of Technology, Rourkela – 769008 (Orissa)” along with photo copies of relevant documents (attestation not necessary) and a non-refundable demand draft of Rs.300/-(Rupees three hundred only) in favour of Director, National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, payable at any bank at Rourkela.

There is no provision for on-line submission of application form. The envelope containing application form should be superscribed by “Application for M.Tech/ M.Sc. ______________________department (Regular / Sponsored / Slow pace )”. The last date for receiving application form is 15th May 2009 (Friday). Application forms received after due date will not be considered. The list of selected candidates will be displayed in our Institute website www.nitrkl.ac.in and no intimation will be sent to the selected candidates by post. The candidates are requested to visit our Institute website for the selection / merit list and counseling dates as per following schedule:
